Knowledge:
-Student defines basic terms concerning virology, bacteriology and mycology
-Explains interactions between pathogens and hosts
-Describes usage of microscopic and cultural methods, biochemical and serological tests in the identification of microorganisms
Practical skills:
-Performs basic tests used in the microbiology
-Interprets results of laboratory tests
Competences:
Can organize cooperation with a diagnostic laboratory

Course content:
Biology of bacteria and fungi, phenomena occurring in the world of micro-organisms, interactions between macro- and micro-organisms, the role of bacteria and fungi in the environment, culture and identification of bacteria and fungi.
Groups of viruses, viral diseases and prophylaxis.

Obligatory passing grades of laboratory course and oral exam after the semester 4. Minimum required knowledge for passing: at least 60% .
