Learning outcomes: During the curse the students become familiar with the technologies of horticultural production resulting from the use of given media. Some aspects of environmental protection will be also considered, regarding media obtaining (peat) and their post-cultivation management (Rockwool, coir).
Competences: The students will acquire the skills of recognizing horticultural media and their preparation for plant growing i.e.: the mixtures featuring determined properties, fertilizing, pH regulation and disinfections. The course will also enable the students to determine the basic physical (density, porosity, water capacity) and chemical (pH and salt concentration) properties, choose the rate of liming as well as water and media acidifation.
Prerequisites: Soil Science
Course content: The subject aims at particular and theoretical presentation of media and soils used in horticultural production. A special attention is paid to origin, production, physical and chemical properties of media (peat, coir, bark, straw, sawdust, keramzite, perlite, polyurethane foam) as well as to criteria of their choice for particular types of cultivation.

Assessment methods: Acquiring the credits; colloquium, obligatory 60% of the total scope knowledge.
