Learning outcomes: Practical student ability of recognition herbivorous and beneficial fauna on plants, damage evaluating of the crop, and decision on pests control.
Competences: The student be able to diagnose correctly the threat of herbivorous pests. Estimate the harmfulness threshold. React suitably to formed threat. Plan and execute correctly control treatments, according to IPM principles. Check quality of conducted control treatments.
Prerequisites: Botany, Zoology, Crop Production
Course content: Morphology, systematics, development of most common phytophagous animals, mainly insects, mites, nematodes and snails. The role of insects in natural ecosystems and agriculture. Ecological bases of plant protection against pests. Abiotic and biotic factors effecting the abundance and dynamics of insects populations. The practical embrace the systematic review of the most important pests in agricultural crops. Also beneficial entomofauna, including pollinating insects and natural enemies of pests is referring.
