Knowledge:
The student knows various types of statistical graphs, understands basic notions of probability theory such as: random event, random variable, independence of random variables; knows methods of statistical inference, understands the notion of the linear regression model and methods of inference in this model.
Skills
The student can compute summary statistics and create statistical graphs, he/she can calculate the probability of a random event in a probability model corresponding to a discrete random variable or to a random variable of a continuous type; he/she can estimate parameters and test hypotheses in the normal model; can test hypotheses regarding proportion and calculate confidence interval for proportion; he/she can use the linear regression model for assessing dependance between variables.
Social competences
He/she is prepared for using statistical methods in life and social sciences. He/she understands the need of the life-long education.

MathematicsCourse content:
Statistical graphs, descriptive statistics, basic notions of mathematical statistics and probability theory, discrete probability distributions, continuous probability distributions, parameter estimation in the normal model (notion of an unbiased estimator), hypothesis test for a mean of a normal population (the case of known variance),
hypothesis test for a mean of a normal population (the case of unknown variance),
confidence interval for a mean of a normal population, test of equality of two normal population means, linear regression model, multiple regression model, selected topics in multivariate analysis.
