Student has the knowledge on the basic processes responsible for the functioning of plant cell and of plant organisms. He knows how to handle different methods used in researches biochemical and physiological processes going on in plants.Competences:
Knowledge in the realm of plant physiology and biochemistry (theory and practice) obtained during the lectures and classes is necessary for further studies of such subjects as agriculture and related sciences. Passing the course permits conducting simple examination of physiological and biochemical processes of plants.Prerequisites:

Amino acids, peptides, proteins, nucleotides, nucleic acids, carbohydrates, lipids: structure, biosynthesis and functions. Enzymes: structure, kinetics, activity regulation. Genetic code. Replication. Transcription. Translation. Gene expression and its regulation. Respiration. Absorption, translocation and loss of water from plants. Mineral nutrition. Photosynthesis. Photorespiration. The C4 and CAM plants. Nearby and distant transport of assimilates. Plant hormones. Photoperiodism. Seed germination. Flowering. Plant movements. Physiology of stress.Recommended literature:
