Learning outcomes: Knowledge: The aim ofthe course is to familiarize students with the problem of the protection of plants against diseases, and outline the risks of disease fodder plants and their impact on the health of livestock. After completing the course the student will be able to identify the most prevalent diseases of fodder plants and will be able to prevent them from occurring, and thus minimize the risk of poisoning the animals. Skills: Students can recognize the pathogens of the groups of major economical importance. They develop an ability to assess the damage already caused by them, or anticipate the extent of it in the future. They are trained to take control decisions that are funded on the appropriate identification, observation and monitoring of the species in question.

Competences: Personal and social competences (attitudes and behaviors): Course participants become well-informed and environmentally responsible members of their local farming community, prepared to disseminate the knowledge they have received, in order to promote the positive attitude of ecological awarness in farming and plant protection practice of their local society.

Prerequisites: Prerequisites: Botany, Microbiology, Soil Tillage and Plant Cultivation (essential knowledge of Agronomy field).

Course content: Course contents: Lecture What is plant disease? The definition and the role of plant diseases in agriculture, horticulture, forestry and biodiversity conservation. Abiotic factors causing plant diseases. Stages of plant infestation by biotic factors - viruses, bacteria, fungi. The environment impact on the infection process. Factors affecting infection. Main biotic factors causing plant diseases (review of taxa). Methods to control plant disease: regulatory control, cultural control, biological control, physical control. Tutorial Plant diseases caused by viruses and bacteria Plant diseases caused by Ustilaginalles Plant diseases caused by Uredinales Plant diseases caued by mitosporic fungi Basic methods of plant protection and theirs effect on animal healthiness The experimental methods using on checking of healthiness of cereals.
