prof. dr hab. inż. Alicja Czamara Language of instruction:
PolishLearning outcomes:
Knowledge: Student has basic knowledge of hydrology (interpretation of water levels, tide, flow - duration curves) and hydrogeology (taxonomy, properties, resources and dynamics of groundwater). He should understand the processes and rules that determine the water flow in geoecosystems.
Skills: He can apply his knowledge to solve technical problems related to renewable energy and waste management (landfill location and monitoring). He can determine the basic characteristics of the hydrological basins: controlled and non-controlled. He can calculate the inflow to the ditch (drainage channel) and wells, determine the range of cone of depression. Student can use geological thematic maps, can assess the geological and hydrogeological conditions of a particular area.
Competences:
Competence: he is aware of the risk posed by surface- and groundwater to population and environment. He is responsible for his own work and is capable to cooperate on particular project within the team.Prerequisites:
Mathematics, PhysicsCourse content:
The water cycle in nature. Surface, point and linear hydrographic objects. Physical and geographical parameters of basin. Rating curve, main flows. Inflow and outflow measures. Integral flow curve. Extreme events – low flows and flood. Conventional flow and design discharge flow. Simple prognostic relations. Water level and flow hydrometric measurements. The water level correspondence.
Bases of geology. Groundwater occurrence (including geothermal). Systematic of groundwater. Basic physical and hydrogeological rock (soil) properties. Basic calculations of the water dynamic range within the aeration and saturation zone (tributary to the drainage ditch and wells, the designation of the depression cone range). Thematic maps, hydrogeological cross section, hydroizohips and hydroizobaths maps, the direction of groundwater flow. Location of groundwater monitoring network.

Evaluation of the effects of education in the field of knowledge: Successful completion of lectures on the basis of test assessments. Evaluation of the effects of training in skills: Properly prepared reports from design projects and from problem analysis sessions. Evaluation of the education effects from social competence point of view: individual activities, responsibility for the task performed due diligence in preparing tasks.Comment:
Preparation of hydrological project. Laboratory and computing. Successful completion of problem analysis sessions on the basis of tests and of the reports of design projects. Written test lectures.
