Knowledge:
a) Describes structure andbiological properties of proteins, nucleid acids, sugers and lipids
b) Knows the basic metabolic pathways in human cells.
c)Has a basic knowledge of enzymology, molecular biology and genetic engineering.
d)Describes the basic methods of marking and identification of proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates and lipids
Practical skills:
a) Basic skills in the preparation of solutions and perform basic biochemical calculations.
b)Ability to perform qualitative and quantitative determination of basic low-molecular organic compounds and macromolecules constituting the cells and body fluids.
c) Basic skills in the separation and isolation of biologically important macromolecules.
Competences:
Ability to work by self and team work in an analytical laboratory.Prerequisites:
General chemistry, Organic chemistry, Biophysics.Course content:
The structure of basic compounds in a living organism, the most important pathways of the metabolism, its energetic and regulatory mechanisms as well as basic information on gene expression and recombinant DNA. Recommended literature:

Completed obligatory laboratory exercise; minimum 50% positives in running tests; the final test or oral exam after the semester 3. The final grade at 80% depends on the result of the final test, and at 20% on the running marks.Comment:
This subject lasts two semesters: Bichemistry I and Biochemistry II.
