Knowledge:
-identifies dog breeds, is able to mention the characteristic features of particular dog breeds, know the history of dog origin and primary utilization,
-can propose suitable dog breed in dependence on necessities of prospective owner;
-knows dog anatomy and physiology of systems – skeletal, alimentary, respiratory, circulatory, reproductive and neural;
-basing on known senses and instincts of dogs is able to train the dog in satisfactory degree – to allow dog to satisfy established requirements, especially as companion dog;
Practical skills:
-estimates the dog age,
- is able to identify the elementary dog breeds, advice in choosing the suitable breed – in dependence on habitat, economical conditions, necessities and expectations of potential owner;
-basing on observations of dogs exterior and behavior is able to estimate their condition;
-estimates the correctness of living and environmental conditions in large shelters and domestic rearing;
Competences:
- cooperates with: dog owners, personnel and owners of dog shelters, people who keep the private dog breedings, people who organize dogotherapy, institutions which use practical skills of working dogs; Prerequisites:
anatomy and physiology of companion animals Course content:
The aim of the course is to provide students with origin of chosen dog breeds, structure and functions of dog senses, structure and functions of systems – skeletal, circulatory, neural, respiratory, alimentary and reproductive. Students will be acquaint with dog nutrition principles, information about working dogs, dog behaviour, diseases, breeds and rules of breeding, assistance in an emergency. Recommended literature:
