Learning outcomes: Knowlegde: Student knows the basics of geographic information systems and has knowledge of the terminology associated with them. Student has a general knowledge of cartographic projections and reference frame used in Poland. Students knows models of spatial data and different kind of analysis performed both on vector and raster data. Students has knowledge of spatial data infrastructure in Poland. Abilities: Student can choose the appropriate projection and coordinate system to the area of interest. Student is able to create a vector database associated with attribute table. Student uses the SQL language to perform operation in a database. Student can distinguish GIS data models and apply known methods of spatial analysis – appropriate to the data model – in solving a spatial task. Student is able to create digital terrain model as well as calculate and visualize its derivative (e. g. exposition).

Competences: Social competence ( attitudes ): Student comprehends the role of geographic information systems in spatial planning. Student is aware of usage of spatial analysis in rational spatial management, such as making decision on optimal location of a feature.

Prerequisites: Information technology, geodesy and cartography
