PolishLearning outcomes:
Knowledge:
Student:
W1 - knows the specific biological and demographic characteristics of human populations, differing them from subhuman species, especially non-human primates [KB2_W05];
W2 - knows the basics of population genetics and inheritance of quantitative traits [KB2_W04_BC];
W3 - suggests appropriate methods for assessing the biological and demographic indicators of human populations [KB2_W01, KB2_W02].
Skills:
Student:
U1 - correctly presents (graphically and tabular) and interpret the biological and demographic indicators characterizing human populations [KB2_U04];
U2 - is able to assess and predict the course of some biological and demographic processes in the population with the help of mathematical methods [KB2_U07, KB2_U02_BC].
Competences:
Personal and social competences (attitudes and behaviors):
Student:
K1 - is aware of the opportunities created by knowledge of mathematical methods in the interpretation of biological phenomena [KB2_K09].
Prerequisites:
human ecology, general geneticsCourse content:
Adaptation, adaptability, adiustation. Adaptation factors now and in the past. Adaptation mechanisms based on genetic transmission. Demographical specification of human populations. The size of population. Number of individuals in groups. Distribution and migrations. Fertility, mortality, mating, reproduction. Elements of population genetics. Some problems of non-genetic ways of adaptation in human populations. Genesis of races. Bio-cultural evolution. Interrelationships in human populations. Recommended literature:

Assessment methods:
Assessment exercise: regular (every 2-3 weeks) written tests to assess the current rating (based on oral statements) progress and activity. The presence of the exercises is compulsory, the student may have only one unauthorized absence. Completion of exercises based on the average ratings.
Completion of the course: students with credited exercises have to pass an additional written test (40-50 open questions, partly of a problematic). Final rating is the average of the rate of exercises and Comment:
