Knowledge:
has the theoretical knowledge regarding the forming and development of settlement units, the stylisation of spatial forms, the methods behind functional solutions, the compositional-aesthetical urban structures with respect to the development of art history (especially architecture) from prehistory to the end of the 20th century. The student will gain knowledge in the sphere of: the construction materials used, local traditions, the changing civilisational-economic requirements, distinguished artists and their works. The student will also learn the similarities and differences in the forming of settlement structures for each historical period and style.
Abilities:
The student can differentiate between the tendencies in and ways of the forming of settlement units and development complexes. The student can differentiate between specific historical styles, the evolutionary character of the process of the forming of human settlements, point out the aspects of development or regression of urban areas.

Social competence (attitudes):
The student will gain knowledge and grow in historical and cultural awareness. This may be the basis for using some of its elements in the creative process of urban planning, creating: spatial order, natural environment protection according to the principles of sustainable development, and respect to civilisational heritage.

Analysis of the forming of settlement structures from prehistory to the end of the 20th century. Characterisation of architectural-urban styles. Discussing the important tendencies in the development of settlement units with regard to art history. Selecting a number of important artists and discussing their influence on the formation of urban forms.Recommended literature:
