Learning outcomes: Knowledge: Student: 1) knows and understands the concepts of descriptive statistics and basic statistical data analysis[BH1-W03 (R1A_W01; InzA_W02)]. 2) understands mathematical description of quantitative traits of animals and plants [BH1-W03 (R1A_W01; InzA_W02); BH1-W13 (R1A_W03; R1A_W05; InzA_W01)]. Skills: Student: 1) describes and analyzes quantitative traits using basic methods of statistics [BH1-U01 (R1A_U01; R1A_U03; InzA_U01; InzA_U04)]; 2) uses information technology to describe and analyze data [BH1-U01 (R1A_U01; R1A_U03; InzA_U01; InzA_U04); BH1-U03 (R1A_U03; InzA_U01)]; 3) can present the data and results of statistical analysis[BH1-U02 (R1A_U02)]

Competences: Student: 1) understands the need to improve knowledge of statistics [BH1-K01 (R1A_K01; R1A_K07)]; 2) understands the role of statistical methods in breeding work [BH1-K05 (R1A_K04)]; 3) recognizes the importance of access to information and the skills of its processing [BH1-K10 (R1A_K07)]

Prerequisites: mathematics, proficiency to use Excel

Course content: Basics of probability. Biological traits of population as a random variables. Distribution of a random variable. Population statistical description based on samples. Statistical analysis of the data set. Topics of estimation. Verification of hypotheses (significance tests, compatibility tests). Correlation and simple regression. Univariate analysis of variance.
