Knowledge: Student understands the complexity of GMO connected problems and knows appropriated World and Polish laws and directives. Student is able to formulate and present the scientifically proved opinions concerning all different aspects about GMO.
Skills: On the base of acquired knowledge and acting law regulations in Poland student is able to undertake decisions about GM in agriculture, introduction of foods contenting GMO or foods elaborated with GMO on the market and advantages of biopharmaceutics produced by GMO.Competences:
Student is conscientious of the necessity to discuss problems connected with GMO on the local, national and international forum. Student is able to accept different points of view and undertake an essential scientific discussion.

Molecular biology, genetic engineering
Course content:
Introduction and definition of GMO. Presentation of the most important laws and regulations in the World and in Poland. Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety , The Convention on Biological Diversity, Polish and European laws and directives. Description of main GMO plants resistant to insects, fungal pathogens, herbicides and stress. GM animals in biopharmaceutical production. Perspectives for quality improvement of herds and animal populations and food products. Transgenetic microorganisms in productions of biopharmaceuticals and food. Anxiety of society, reports of different associations pro or anty- GMO. Scientific aspects cited in public discussions . Recommended literature:
