Learning outcomes: Knowledge: W1 – defines the concept of livestock genomics (BI_W06, BI_W08, BI_W11); W2 – indicates bioinformatics tools used in animal husbandry (BI_W04, BI_W09, BI_W14); W3 – describes the genes with major impact on animals production traits (BI_W06, BI_W08); W4 – knows the principles of the molecular techniques used in the diagnosis of inherited disorders in livestock (BI_W08, BI_W16); Skills: U1 – can design a research project (BI_U02, BI_U04, BI_U05, BI_U09); U2 – is able to use basic techniques of molecular biology by himself (BI_U02, BI_U06, BI_U08); U3 – interprets the test results (BI_U07, BI_U10); U4 – presents the test results as presentation and short scientific report (BI_U11); U5 - ably and safely uses of laboratory equipment(BI_U06, BI_U08); Social competences (attitudes): K01 – concern about an accurate laboratory testing (BI_K01, BI_K03, BI_K05); K02 – following the safety rules in laboratory work(BI_K07); K03 – ability to cooperate in a research group (BI_K02); K04 – responsibility for laboratory equipment(BI_K05);

Competences:

Prerequisites: biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, molecular biology

Course content: Genom organization. Livestock genomics. Polymorphic genetic markers. Elements of gene expression regulation. Genes of high impact on animal production and performance traits. Genetics diseases in livestock. Molecular diagnostics of inherited disorders in livestock.
