Learning outcomes: Knowledge: student has knowledge of ecological systems’ structures and mechanisms; student knows ecological research methods, formulates research hipotheses; student explains strategies of organisms adaptation to environmental conditions; student understands relationships between organisms and their environment. Skills: student applies various methods of ecological research; student defines species membership of specified terrestrial organisms; student analyzes and interprets the interactions between organisms living on land and determines their environmental requirements; student is able to use ecology law in protecting the rights of ecology endangered terrestrial animal species.

Competences: Personal and social competences (attitudes and behaviors): student is able to work in a team and organize fieldwork thinking creatively; student is able to select and apply appropriate methods of collecting, breed, conservation and preparation in the study of invertebrates; student acts in accordance with the principles of health and safety in the laboratory.

Prerequisites: Invertebrate zoology I and II, Vertebrate zoology, General ecology

Course content: Research methods in ecology of terrestrial animals. Ekogeografical rules. Mechanisms of animal ecological isolation. Levels of environmental organizations. Interactions between organisms. Biodiversity.

Assessment methods: Exercises assessment: current rating (based on the material recognition), the assessment of project work. The presence on the exercises is mandatory, the student may have only one unexcused absence. The written test covering the content of the lectures and exercises. Course assessment based on average grade. Subject assessment: on the basis of the positive grade of exercises.
