Knowledge
Student has a basic knowledge of: the principles of organization and planning of waste management, legal basis, classification of waste, technical capabilities of collection, transport, recovery and disposal of waste, principles of construction and operation of landfills and facilities.
Skills
Student can determine the amount, sources and ways of dealing with waste, make a balance and forecast of amount of municipal waste and analyze the waste management in the workplace, adjust the existing waste management system to current requirements.
Competences:
Student recognizes the importance of waste management for sustainable development, understands the need of avoiding generation of waste, their use and reducing of amount of waste deposited in landfills.

The legal basis for waste management. Classification, physical, mechanical and chemical properties of waste. Forecasting of quantities of waste. Reducing the amount of waste. Waste management in local government units. Separate collection and segregation of waste. Composting of waste. Collection and transportation of waste. Thermal utilization of municipal waste. Hazardous waste. Landfills: the types, location, construction and operation. Landfills reclamation.Recommended literature:
