Learning outcomes: Student has an extensive knowledge of the use of arms, ammunition and hunting accessories for the trapping of animals. Student has a working knowledge of culture and protection of games and knows the role of a closed breeding of game birds. Student understands the principles of rational management of hunting and its close links with animal husbandry, agriculture and forestry, understands the principle of protection of wild animals. Student knows the basic concepts of ecology, including the biology and classification of selected species of wild animals and wild games, knows the organization, equipment and management of fisheries. Student indicates the possibility of practical use of knowledge in life through the knowledge of the basic zoonotic risks, knowledge of legislation relating to hunting, animal welfare and conservation.

Competences: After completing the course student is able to conduct biological observations, interprets and discusses the results and draw appropriate conclusions, using scientific terminology. Student is able to observe the impact of environmental factors on the body of wild animals, correctly explains the interactions between different elements of the ecosystem, including anthropometric factors, identify risks to the environment, taking into account the zoonotic risks. Student correctly interpret and applie the legal provisions concerning the organization of hunting ventures, including the detailed conditions for maintenance of wild animals in a closed breeding. On the basis of professional literature, student is able to formulate arguments concerning animal welfare. Student has the ability to prepare reports, papers and other written assignments and presentations related to the subject object.

Prerequisites: zoology, animal hygiene, animal husbandry

Course content: The tasks of hunting and game management in Poland and abroad. Outline of the history of hunting, its importance and relationship to animal husbandry, agriculture and forestry. Forms of nature conservation in Poland and abroad. Biology of wild games. Organization and management of fisheries. Breeding and protection of wild game. Close keeping of wild animals. Zoonotic threats. Cynology hunting. The rules of hunting. Hunting equipment. Hunting laws and ethics of hunting. Tradition, customs and culture of hunting. Using the game. Hunting trophies. Hunting tourism.

Assessment methods: periodic written test as well as oral presentations and activity; the presence at the tutorials is compulsory, the student may have only one unauthorized absence.
