PolishLearning outcomes:
Knowledge:
Students gain theoretical and practical knowledge about the conditions necessary to achieve high yields and a good quality of crops. They are able to determine soil fertility and soil reaction and on the basis of this knowledge they can identify the fertilization needs of the different species of plants. Students assess chemical composition of fertilizers and they can present the manner and timing of their application. The course participants are able to analyze chemical composition of plants and explain differences in this matter. Moreover, they know how to analyze the impact of fertilization on plants quality (nutritional and technological). Additionally, they examine the economic aspects of fertilizer treatments and are aware of the impact of fertilization on the environment
Skills:
Students acquire skills of chemical analysis of soils, plants and fertilizers. They are able to assess the effect of fertilization on the quantity and quality of crops. Course participants are able to calculate the economic efficiency of fertilization depending on the type of fertilizer and the used technologies and techniques. Students can not only determine the pH of soils and the nutrients concentration in soils but also they determine the dose of fertilizer and draw up a plan of fertilization. The participants are able to establish the fertilizers impact on the environment.Competences:
Social competence:
Students are able to differentiate phenomena occurring in soil and the impact of these on the growth and development of plants and the environment. They can work individually or in a team. Participants can evaluate and explain the impact of fertilization on the quantity and quality of crops. They are able to calculate the cost of fertilizer treatments and estimate the profit of the farmer, and are aware of the environmental risks. Students comply with the safety rules for storage and application of fertilizers. Students demonstrate responsibility for the entrusted equipment .Prerequisites:
Chemistry, biochemistry, pedology, plants physiologyCourse content:
Soil as plant nutrition environment, forms and transformation of nutrients in the soil, plant chemical composition, nutritional requirements and fertilizing needs of plants, organic and mineral fertilizers, fertilizers for de-acidification of soils, fertilizer application technique, setting doses of fertilizer, rules in fertiliser advisory, the effect of fertilization on quality of the yield, ecological effects of fertilization, economic efficiency of fertilization.Recommended literature:
