Learning outcomes and competences: Student acquire knowledge on experimental methods used in field crop production: field experiments, micro-plot experiments, pot experiments, knows how to successfully write master degree dissertation
Knowledge: basic rules for master degree dissertation, experimental designs in agronomy, material and methods used in agricultural experiments, operating scientific equipment in field crops research
Skills: Student is able to plan agricultural experiment, choose proper experimental design, set objectives for research, collect experimental data using scientific equipment
Competences:
Personal and social competences: Student organize and lead discussion in team of persons, appreciate the importance of permanent learning and widening personal skills.Prerequisites:
Undergraduate course in agriculture.Course content:
Course contents
SEMINARS
1. Experiments conducted in the Department of Agroecosystems and Green Areas Management, consultations with supervisors of students
2. Principles and practice of writing master degree dissertation
3.- 4. Discussion about experiments chosen by students for their master degree
5. Location of students’ experiments in the Experimental Station Swojec
6. Scientific methods for assessment of winter survival of winter crop species
7.- 8. Methods of assessment of physical, chemical and biological properties of the soil
9. Methods of assessment of weed infestation of plant canopy and the soil, methods of assessment of plant emergence and of infection of cereals by stem-base diseases
10. Methods of assessment of plant traits and components of yield
11. Soil properties – methods of calculation and presentation
12. Consultations with supervisors in order to establish methodology for experiments chosen by students
13.- 15. Presentations of issues concerning experiments conducted by students and discussion
