Knowledge: Student knows the role and significance of the Environmental Impact Assessment and the Strategic Environmental Assessment is the key to sustainable development, knows the basic procedures, methods and modern techniques to carry out environmental impact assessments for projects, programmes, plans and policy, knows the objectives and scope of public consultation under the EIA and the SEA. Student knows the responsibility for condition of the environment is taken by the government, administrative units, public institutions, society and private persons.
Skills: Student can identify the typical impacts of particular projects, programmes and plans on the environment. Student can collect and use economic and environmental data to evaluate the impact of the project, plan or policy on the environment, uses the specialist terminology connected with the environmental protection. Student is able to qualify the projects, plans and programmes for environmental assessment and to determine the scope of the EIA and the SEA. Student knows how to identify potential environmental impacts and asses their effects, can make the best choices realization variant, can develop elements of the EIA report. Student is able to carry out process with civil participation from administration’s perspective and also can make comments and requests for public consultation from the point of view of participant in the proceedings.

Competences: During the course student achieve personal and social competences (attitudes and behaviors), ability to work in a team. Student can work together in the consultation and decision-making, is aware of the environmental impacts caused by projects, programmes and plans. Student realizes individual and social responsibility for condition of the environment. Student can suggest solutions diminishing adverse impacts on the environment.Prerequisites:

Genesis, the role and importance of the environmental impact assessments. Typology of projects affecting the environment. Institution of the Environmental Impact Assessment in legal and organizational regulations. The Strategic Environmental Assessment. The Environmental Impact Assessment of projects. Forecasts and EIA reports. Public consultation in the EIA and the SEA procedure. Environmental information systems. Tools and methods to perform the EIA and the SEA. Good practices in the EIA and the SEA. Presentation of the role and scope of public consultation in the EIA and SEA (the formal requirements, the procedure, the right of society and social organizations, comments and requests from the public).
