student after finishing the course:
-describes the goals and methods of working with laboratory animals,
-lists the rights of laboratory animals and ethical requirements of working with these animals,
-describes the sanitary requirements and principles of laboratory animal husbandry,
- covers the basics of anatomy and physiology, genetic diversity and related methods of genetic modification of laboratory animals
-explains the rules of experiments on laboratory animals
-proposing alternative methods which do not require working with live animals
Skills:
- draws up a proposal to the ethics committee for permission to conduct experiments with laboratory animals
- submits a draft of the experiment with laboratory animalsCompetences:

Biochemistry, Genetics, Immunology Course content:
Basic knowledge in ethics and legislation of the use of animals in biomedical research, anatomy, physiology, reproduction and behavior of laboratory animals, biochemical and hematological markers in healthy animals, animal facilities- organization and hygiene, breeding and feed regiment, genetic diversity in mice and rats, transgenesis, transgenic animals and gene knockouts animals, examination of gene expression in vivo and ex vivo, immunological, pharmacological and toxicological tests and experiments designing, low vertebrates and non-vertebrates as laboratory animals, screening test “omics” type, cell and tissue culture as an alternative methods of experimentsRecommended literature:
