Student knows connections between chemical reactions and properties of compounds and processes in nature. Student is able to apply of knowledge obtained in agricultural and related sciences. Student knows basic laws determining chemical properties of matter and basic inorganic compounds.
Student could present connections between structures of organic compounds, as well as secondary metabolites and their properties. Is able to indicate importance and properties of basic organic compounds.
Competences:
Student could keep safety rules in chemical laboratory and could perform base laboratory procedure, e.g. titration.
Student is taking care on efficient work according to hints or instructions. Is able to work in team.

Inorganic part: Periodic table content and reading of important informations. Dissociations theory, acid, bases and salts. Writing of neutralizations reactions. Obtaining and properties of amphoteric bases. Concentrations: molar, percentage and others. Preparing of solutions, re-calculation of concentration. pH of weak and strong acids and bases. Ostwald's dilution law. Hydrolysis of salts, calculation of their pH. Buffers - theory and using. Properties of buffers. Water hardness: importance,types, methods of removing.
Organic part: Main groups of organic compounds: structure, properties and occurrence in nature. Properties and reactivity of: alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, alcohol, phenols, esters. Properties and reactivity of aldehydes, ketones carboxylic acids. Biocompounds: esters (lipids), aminoacids, proteins and sugars. Introduction to natural product chemistry: terpenes, alkaloids, flavonoids. Introduction to spectroscopy.
