Learning outcomes: Knowledge a) defines the principles of co-operation with the breeder b) identifies tsks of farm veterinarian in large farms c) identifies the most common health problems in herds of cattle, swine, sheep and goats d) defines the basic methods of prevention and control od diarrhoea in farms of cattle and swine e) defines the basic methods of prevention and control od respiratory tract infections in farms of cattle and swine Practical skills a) is able to select representative group of animals in problem and healthy herds prepared for herd health monitoring b) is able to perform, large farm herd health monitoring c)is able to utilize acute phase proteins and selected biochemical parameters of blood, urine and milk in the herd health monitoring
Competences: Student a) is able to elvaluate body condition score od dairy cows self b) is able to classify the levels of lameness in group of cows c) Is able to perform self simple field tests to evaluate the immunity of newborns of farm animal species
Prerequisites: Animal breeding, Animal nutrition, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Immunology, Ethology and Animal Welfare, Animal Hygiene
Course content: Course consists of fifth topics, decrypting the most important problems of food animals’ herds: 1. Prevention and health monitoring in herd; 2. Food animals’ immunity – especially immunity of newborn; 3. Losses in young stock – causes associated with alimentary tract; 4. Losses in young stock – causes associated with respiratory tract; 5. Losses in herd and progeny caused by inappropriate feeding. The most important swine and bovine herd problems (selected aspects of bovine, goat and horse health problems) methods of prevention and eradication within the herd.

Assessment methods: Passing grades of course and written elaborates; written exam. Minimum grade for passing: 60%
