PolishLearning outcomes:
Student knows soils characteristics and subsoil behaviour under load action, he has knowledge on different foundation systems and scopes of theirs application according to the soil specification on the building site, he has orientation in technologies used in geotechnical engineering and particularly concerning retaining structures, he understand limit state methods, theoretical model and principles of foundation bearing capacity calculation and subsoil deformation under foundation.
After course completion student is able to analyse subsoil profile and adapt right foundation system, he uses calculation algorithms for foundation limit state, he can execute basic calculation of sheet pile and massive retaining walls, he is prepared to supervise execution of basic foundation works.
Competences:
He understand the importance of project correctness for the safety of structures, he is competent in communication, discussion and collaboration by solving technical problems of structures’ foundation and designing of other geotechnical constructions. Prerequisites:
mechanics of structures, strength of materials, soil mechanics. Course content:
Ground investigation. Types of foundations. Shallow foundation – designing and dimensioning of foundation in relation to the subsoil condition. Structures settlements – reason and effects. Subsoil models. Excavations. Retaining structures. Sheet piling – designing and execution. Diaphragm walls. Soil reinforcement techniques. Soil anchors. Deep foundation. Piles. Piling technologies.
