Learning outcomes: Knowledge: – knows zootechnical terminology and specificity of most important farm animals breeding and husbandry; – understands farm animals function, their role in agriculture and human life, and knows modern technologies of milk, meat, eggs and wool production; – knows the effects of large-scale breeding development and various levels of production intensification on its profitability; – points mandatory legal regulations in animal production (cross compliance). Skills: – properly uses zootechnical terminology and is able to analyze an influence of significant factors on farm animals breeding effects; – is able to perform and solve simple design task concerning the methods of farm animals breeding (nutrition system, reproduction organization, offspring rearing, welfare); – is able to determine the results of large-scale breeding development and various levels of production intensification on its profitability; – evaluates farm animals breeding conditions in the light of mandatory legal regulations (cross compliance).

Competences: – understands the need of constant knowledge and skills improvement, is able to inspire and organize these processes in social environment.

Course content: Economic significance of animal production, animals domestication and its effects, performance types and breeds of animals, modern production technologies, systems of animals nutrition and maintenance, reproduction and breeding work basis, young animals rearing, animal origin products assessment, legal (cross compliance) and economic regulations in animal production.

Assessment methods: Course completion The basis for course completion is practicals completion and written test (20 questions – test lasts 45 minutes). When the test is not completed in the first term, the student has the right to pass it again in the same form in additional term. Minimum scope of knowledge required for completion is 60%. Knowledge will be verified during the exam. Practicals completion based on an average score obtained during oral statements; two written tests (10 questions and 2 tasks – each test lasts 20 minutes); practicals in the cowshed and written project in the range of dairy cattle breeding and husbandry. Presence on the practicals is obligatory. In case of justified absence, the student is obliged to complete the suitable part of material (oral statement on 2 problem questions). Scores range and % of proper answers: 3,0 – 60-65%, 3,5 – 65-70%, 4,0 – 71-80%, 4,5 – 81-90%, 5,0 – 91-100%.
