This course extends knowledge of modelling and computation of two dimensional structures. Students learn how to assign primary structure and how to model its elements, supports and loads. Computational methods and techniques to are introduced.Competences:
Completion the course gives the fundamentals of analyzing two dimensional structures which enables to design them using wood, metal or concrete materials.Prerequisites:
mathematics, theoretical mechanics, mechanics of materialsCourse content:
Equilibrium equations; forces and moments in statically determinate structures. Principles and equation of virtual work. Influence lines in statically determinate beams, frames and trusses. Stress distribution in homogeneous structures with symmetrical cross section; deformation of structures; deflections in statically determinate structures by extension, bending and torsion. Introduction to statically indeterminate structures. Force method and displacement method (linear theory) for statically indeterminate structures (beams, frames and trusses). Displacement method for linearized stability analysis.
The students should develop the ability to both model and analyze structures to determine the internal forces and structural deformations.
