Student:
W1 - knows the statistical methods used when analyzing genomes of animals [KB_W09], [KB_W14];
W2 - knows principles of genome wide association, know classes of genetic markersand phenomenon of linkage disequilibrium [KB_W14];
W3 – knows how to estimate linkage disequilibrium and what kind of factors influence the accuracy of genome-wide association study [KB_W03].
Skills:
Student:
U1 - is able to use statistical methods and computer software to study data of biological (molecular) origin [KB_U04];
U2 - is able to use statistical methods and computer software to study and analyze genomes of animals as well as linkage between QTLs and genetic markers [KB_U03] [KB_U08];
U3 – is able to estimate an effect of QTLs on phenotypic variation of studied traits [KB_U08];
U4 - can prepare final project [KB_U18].

The overall purpose of the course is to provide students with theoretical background and practical skills concerning genetic markers, linkage disequilibrium (LD) and its measures, mapping genes of large effects (QTL) using LD, marker assisted selection (MAS), and factors affecting the accuracy of genome-wide association study and genomic selection.Recommended literature:

Assessment methods:
students will have to prepare 2 projects using computer software; the final grade of the course will be calculated as arithmetic mean of the projects assessments.Comment:
