Learning outcomes: Basic knowledge about historical, philosophical, political and social background of scientific research. Students know criteria differentiated scientific and popular articles. They are familiar with proper designee of experiments and structure of a scientific paper; sources of actual status of knowledge (data basses), criteria of selection of verificated scientific methods and methodology in natural sciences, description of materials and methods in such way that scientist, with appropriate knowledge of and experience in the relevant field, should be able to repeat the observations, readable presentation of results, role of discussion, function of informative conclusions and abstract.

Course content: During the course students learn about historical, philosophical, political, and social influence on scientific research and researchers. Students learn about proper selection of information and the methods of verification of published papers. Students learn about the paradigms' in natural science and clear communications using proper nomenclature according to IUPAC, FAO, and ICBN.

Assessment methods: Homework - 2 writing reports. Final writing test (min. 60%). Final note (Reports 50%; final test - 50%).
