Knowledge:
Student knows the methods of scientific, legal, technical and organizational actions used in determining the flood hazard zones; knows hydrological and hydraulic basis for determination the flood hazard zones; knows main models and software applications used to determine these zones. Understands the importance of databases using GIS for zone analysis; understands the main rules of spatial planning in vulnerable zones.
Skills:
Student can determine the flood zones of river valleys; can propose and apply an appropriate model for zones determination; knows how to acquire a necessary information and data from appropriate sources required for zones determination; knows how to properly create a database using the appropriate computer technology to collect, analyze and present data and results of own work; knows how to elaborate a conception of development of these zones depending on the identified threats.

Understands the importance of water for social and economic development; feels the need to deepen knowledge in the field of own specialization.Prerequisites:

Definitions and objectives of flood hazard zones. Types of flood hazard zones. Hydrological and hydraulic basis for determination the flood hazard zones. Methods of determination the maximum discharges. Software applications used to determine the flood hazard zones. Construction of database for determining the flood hazard zones. Hydraulics of hydrotechnical structures an engineering objects within the range of floods. Application of GIS and database for analysis of flood hazard zones. Data visualization on maps and in GIS. Flood hazard zones as the basis for the study flood threat. Methods for assessing the flood threat. Ways of land use of flood hazard zones.Recommended literature:
