Learning outcomes: Knowledge: Student: W1 – knows the scientific theories and hypothesis about appearance of life on the Earth [KB_W13]; W2 – shows knowledge about the historical stages of development of plants and animals in geological period. Describes their anatomical structure and function and explains the basis of adaptation [KB_W11]; W3 – knows the systematic and chronological position of the most important extinct forms of plant and animals. Zna pozycję systematyczną i chronologiczną najważniejszych form wymarłych roślin i zwierzą [KB_W11]; W4 – explains existing of so called alive fossils, characterizes them in evolutionary aspect [KB_W11]. Skills Skills: Student: U1 – shows taxonomical affiliation of extinct forms on the base of their morphology [KB_U10]; U2 – interprets morphological adaptations in evolutionary context [KB_U10]; U3 – shows the geological age of paleontological fossils[KB_U09]; U4 – can present and use knowledge during cooperation with geologists and biologists [KB_U13].

Competences: Personal and social competences (attitudes and behaviors): Student: K1 – student is aware of the meaning of paleobiodifferences and popularize it’s security very actively [KB_K04]; K2– student shows the understanding of the historical and evolutional phenomenons in the nature [KB_K01].

Prerequisites: geology, botany, zoology.

Course content: The origin of life and organisms (speciation), advanced evolution; morphology, function and environment (adaptive origin); principals of the evolution of organisms; taphonomy and recording of geological time; principals of palaea-ecology of organisms and biostratygraphy; principals of evolutionary biogeography.
