Students are able to explore data bases with protein and genome sequences, effectively use data models from NCBI, GenBank and Génolevures. They will be able to fitting sequences, making and introducing of new sequences to data bases as well as conduct phylogenetic and comparisional analyses of genomesCompetences:
Students understand data bases structure, are able to use those knowledge during sequencing analysis unknown proteins and genesPrerequisites:
mathematics, informatics, biochemistry, general microbiology, fundamental genetics, molecular biologyCourse content:
Fundamentals of the Internet and the electronic mail. Model of NCBI data base (PUBs, Seq-id, Biosem, Seq-annot, Seq-descr). Model of GeneBank (primary and secondary data bases, structure of the files). Introduction to sequences and their comparative analysis. Visualisation of structures. Genome mapping. FASTA. BLASTA. Probabilistic methods of genome coding region finding. Probabilistic methods of protein sequence finding. Sequences folding up. Philogenetics analysis (methodology of bulding up the dendrograms, phylogenetic software). Comparative and large-scale analyses of genomes.Recommended literature:
