Learning outcomes: Knowledge: The student has the knowledge of selected topics in mathematics (probability theory in particular). He/she understands the meaning of mathematics and statistics for describing and interpreting of phenomena and processes in life sciences Skills: Is able to communicate precisely orally, in writing and in a graphical way
Competences: The student understands the need of lifelong learning.
Prerequisites: Mathematics at the basic matura level.
Course content: Functions: linear, polynomial, exponential, logarithmic. Number sequence. Limit of a sequence. Limit of a function. Derivative of a function. Maximum, minimum of a function. Application of a derivative to curve sketching. Convex and concave functions. Indefinite and definite integral and their application in physics, chemistry and biology. Basic notions of the probability theory.

Assessment methods: The grade will be based on the results from three written tests and the activity during the classes (includes presenting solutions of the homework problems and answering questions). Attendance during classes is compulsory. A student is allowed to miss one class. Two midterm exams. Written exam.
