Knowledge:General everyday vocabulary, simple communicative phrases – according to the requirements on A2 Level (CEFR – Common European Framework of Reference, 2001 - European Reference Level Descriptions in Learning, Warsaw 2003). Skills: LISTENING The student understands: the most important information in simple announcements and advertisments; short, clear and slow talks; simple instructions related to getting around and finding the way. READING The student can: find specific information in a text and choose the data he or she needs, related to places such as: streets, restaurants, railway and petrol stations; understand hints, instructions and warnings of danger; recognize specific information in simple materials, eg. faxes, short letters, brochures and newspaper articles. SPEAKING The student can: use everyday communicative phrases for greeting, saying goodbye and addressing other people; reply to invitations, offers and apologies as well as invite, offer and apologize; say what he or she likes and doesn’t like; take part in a simple conversation about the studies, work, spare time, as long as his or her interlocutor makes additional effort; agree and disagree with other people; ask simple questions and give answers. WRITING The student can describe, using simple sentences: daily routines; what is happening at a given moment; his or her family, university, room, flat and city. Competences:
The student can make contact with people who do not speak Polish, as long as they are patient and sustain the conversation by waiting for answers and repeating sentences or questions, bearing in mind to use easy and simple phrases.Prerequisites:
Matura/A Level examination (basic). The student can choose a language course in English, French, Spanish, German or Russian after writing a placement test.Course content:
Emphasis on listening comprehension, speaking, reading and writing. Vocabulary related to basic information about family, the closest environment, employment, shopping. Reading advertisements, leaflets etc. Communication on the level of exchanging simple information related to everyday life. Telling the way, inviting friends to social meetings. Giving advice, agreeing, disagreeing. Describing the looks, places, simple events. Giving short definitions. Writing short, simple notes, messages, postcards and letters.Recommended literature:
Own materials of the lecturer.
Literature depends on the chosen foreign language.

Crediting the course based on attendance and active participation in the classes, evaluated homework, quizzes and presentations. Crediting checking reading comprehension, language structures and vocabulary.Comment:
