Learning outcomes: Knowledge: The student knows the chemistry among other sciences Knows the basic laws of organic chemistry as the basic structure and properties of organic compounds. The student has a basic knowledge of the most important biological functions of organic compounds as well as their changes occurring in nature. Skills: The student is able to observe the rules of safety in the laboratory. Student knows how to interpret the information obtained from the literature. Performs basic measurements of the size of the chemical.
Competences: Student is able to work effectively according to the guidelines and is able to work in a team.

Course content: Structure and reactivity of organic compounds: hydrocarbons, organic compounds containing oxygen, nitrogen-containing organic compounds. Isomerism. Main biocompounds: esters (lipids), aminoacids, proteins and sugars. Introduction to spectroscopic and chromatographic techniques.

Assessment methods: Knowledge: Tests on exercises (80 %). The final exam Skills: Assessment of laboratory work in class on the basis of the reports (10 %). Social competence: Assessment of the effects of working in a team (10 %).
