Learning outcomes: Knowledge: - defines the basic concepts in biochemistry [BI_W11]; - recognizesthe basic biomolecules associated with the relevant metabolic pathways [BI_W06]; - explains the relationships between major metabolic pathways and ways toregulate them [BI_W06; BI_W09]. Skills: - combines the basicbiomolecules with the relevant metabolic pathways [BI_U05]; - examines therelationships between the major biochemical pathways [BI_U05]; - usesbasic biochemistry laboratory techniques [BI_U02]. Social competences: - has entrusted the responsibility for laboratory equipment [BI_K07]; - is aware of theimportance of compliance with safety rules in a biochemical laboratory [BI_K07].

Prerequisites: organic chemistry
Course content: Basic chemical constituents of living organisms, obtaining andstoring of metabolic energy,metabolism of carbohydrates, fatty acids and amino acids,regulation ofbasic metabolic pathways, the flow of genetic information.
