Learning outcomes: Knowledge: student has general knowledge in the field of cattle husbandry, has general knowledge in the field of cattle production technology. Skills: student has an ability of searching, understanding, analysis and application of needed information from breeding documentation, performs under scientific tutor direction simple project task concerning widely understood cattle breeding, properly interprets results and draws conclusions, analyses biological processes accompanying cattle husbandry, has an ability of elaboration of breeding assumptions for cattle, is able to elaborate projects in the field of cattle husbandry, presents an ability of interference in particular stages of cattle breeding and is able for elimination of threats using suitable methods.

Competences: Student is able to treat the animals in a responsible way, is aware of the responsibility for the results of improperly led cattle husbandry, is able to conduct cattle husbandry in an aware and responsible manner fulfilling breeding assumptions and tasks, is aware of a need of an additional training and self-improvement in a range of cattle husbandry.

Prerequisites: Basis of animals breeding, Genetics, Cattle breeding and husbandry.

Course content: Cattle husbandry – organizational aspects. Breeding methods used in cattle husbandry. Assessment of utilization value of cattle. Breeding documentation. Assessment of breeding value of cattle. Realization of breeding aims – programs of genetic improvement of cattle. Project of cattle breeding and husbandry.

Recommended literature: 1. Szulc T., Litwińczuk Z. (redakcja): Hodowla i użytkowanie bydła. PWRiL Warszawa, 2005; 2. Dokumentacja hodowlana oraz informacje zawarte w zasadach oceny wartości użytkowej i hodowlanej PFHBiPM oraz PZHiPBM.

Assessment methods: Course completion: Students who have practicals completed are obliged to undertake written test during the exam session. Knowledge (W1, W2) will be verified based on the test lasting 45 minutes (questions from the scope of lectures content.). When the test is not passed in the first term, student has the right to pass it again in the second term.
