The student knows the position of the major taxonomic groups of harmful and beneficial organisms occurring in different ecosystems. He knows the criteria for their classification. He has knowledge of the biodiversity within the natural environment. It has a basic knowledge of morphology, biology and ecology of most important pest groups. Student knows their anatomy, and has knowledge of the basic physiological processes acting inside pest body, necessary to understand plant protection against them.
The student is able to classify, according taxonomic rules, phytophagous organisms, can use basic tools for their identification, can distinguish different types of pest development and life cycles of the higher taxa, is familiar with the general role of the main groups of pests in environment, is able to obtain information from literature and different databases, and is able to interpret and formulate own opinions.Competences:
The student understands the importance of basic information regarding the classification of pests and functional knowledge of the general structure of organisms considered as a harmful. He is aware of the need for continued education and self-improvement in the profession. Student is able to work independently and within a team.Prerequisites:
Botany, Chemistry, Zoology, Animal PhysiologyCourse content:
Biodiversity of phytophagous organisms, especially arthropods and their meaning within environment. Basic taxonomic knowledge (types and orders) – criteria useful for identifying and rules in nomenclature. Taxonomy, classification and morphology of nematods Nematoda, mites Acari, insects Insecta with their anatomy and physiology, slugs Mollusca, rodents Rodentia. The basic evolutionary processes and systematic development of individuals and feeding behaviour on plants. Types of biolological development of phytophagous organisms.
