Knowledge:
The student has detailed knowledge in the field of agricultural engineering including machinery and agricultural vehicles, storage engineering and processing of agricultural products. The student has knowledge in the field of technological processes in plant and animal production and infrastructure of farmhouse.
Skills:
The student has the ability to design new and to supervise existing production systems and consumables in the field of agricultural engineering. The student has the ability to select production processes and to develop documentation related to the flow production.Competences:

The student demonstrates a willingness to analyze his/her task including priorities, taking into account the role of each of its contractors. The student is aware of the social, professional and ethical responsibility taken for tasks affecting the formation and the environment.Prerequisites:

The concept of plant breeding and biological progress.
The methods of broadening the range of plants’ variation.
Inheritance of qualitative characteristics, the interaction of genes, coupling genes. Inheritance of quantitative traits, population genetics. Cytological and molecular basis of inheritance. Mutations in plants and their use in breeding.
Biotechnological methods in genetics and plant breeding:
molecular markers, genetically modified plants. In vitro methods in plant breeding and seed crops. Theoretical basis of heterosis, the use of this phenomenon in modern plant breeding. Breeding methods of self-pollinated and open-pollinated plants. Breeding polyploids. Basis of resistance breeding. The goal and directions of breeding crops. Registration rules and legal protection of varieties.

Obligatory credit exercise. Written exam; minimum knowledge to pass 60%. The assessment of the subject affects 50% of the tutorial credit and 50% exam.
Knowledge:
The student knows the genetic processes occurring within a cell, organism and population and knows modern methods used in genetics and plant breeding. The student knows the basic biotechnological methods used in plant breeding and agricultural production.
Skills:
The student is able to explain the importance of biological progress in agricultural production, and define the goals and directions of plant breeding. The student can explain the importance of resistance breeding for natural environmental protection. The student uses legal regulations in plant production concerning variety registration and seed marketing.
Social competences:
Completion of the course shows students the importance of need for learning throughout life in order to improve their skills in using genetics achievements, plant breeding and biotechnology in agricultural production. Learning process will also allow the students for proper identification and solution of problems related to planning and realization of crop production and in particular to take the right choice of varieties adapted to conditions and goals of production.Comment:
