Knowledge
W1 – knows the principles of aseptic work [BI2_W15];
W2 – knows the classification of cell and tissue cultures [BI2_W04_TP];
W3 – knows methods of mesenchymal stem cells isolation and identyfication [BI2_W04_TP; BI2_W05_TP];
W4 – has knowledge how to design biomaterials [BI2_W05_TP];
W5 – is aware how to use techniques of cell and tissue culture in regenerative medicine [BI2_W05_TP]
Skills
U1– is able to conduct cell passage and maintains cell culture [BI2_U05];
U2 – is able to freeze cells and to defrost cells’ pellets [BI2_U05];
U3 – is able to determine cells’ morphology and cultures’ condition using inverted light microscope [BI2_U05];
U4 – is able to plan an experiment in order to determine biomaterials’ biocompatibility [BI2_U05; BI2_U06];
U5 – is able to propose the way of biomaterials’ modification for different branches of regenerative medicine [BI2_U05; BI2_U06;
BI2_U12].

Prerequisites:
Histology and cell biology.Course content:
Cell culture. Tissue culture. Synthesis of alginate materials. Design of fibrin implants. Suspension of stem cells in fibrin. Suspension of
stem cells onto modified metallic biomaterials. Aseptic working in a laminar flow hood. Centrifuge operation. Inverted microscope
operation. Cytotoxicity assays (XTT or MTT).Recommended literature:

Tutorial credit: regularly, once at month, evaluation of students’ ability to maintaining cells' cultures, cells' passage and medium
changing, checking the skills of: cells’ counting, cells’ identification via their morphology, evaluation of the ability for planning an
experiment concerning biomaterials’ biocompatibility.
The presence on the tutorial is obligatory, the student may have only one unexcused absence. In case of the absence, student is
required to pass the relevant part of the material.
Course credit: students are obligated to write test from material presented during lecture. Final grade is average obtained from
marks received from exam and tutorial. Learning stock for credit is 60%. Intended exam time: 60 minutes.Comment:
