PolishLearning outcomes:
Student describes the genetic processes and the improvement of crop plants.
He can explain the process of somatic embryogenesis and protoplast fusion. He understands the processes occurring in vitro cultures while providing micropropagation of plants, releasing them from pathogens, selection for abiotic stresses, haploidyzation, receive a new variation on the way to induce mutations or the use of somaclonal variation.
He has knowledge on basic techniques, tools and equipments used in the in vitro techniques.
He defines basic terminology in the field of in vitro cultures.
Competences:
The student is able to assess the usefulness and choose the appropriate technique for the in vitro micropropagation or homozygotyzation of plant materials. He has the ability to plan and conduct an experiment aimed to develop efficient methods of recovery and the effective initiation of cultures and pursuing until acclimatization. He prepares a written report from the experience. Students can work in groups taking different roles, he is responsible for his own work and teamwork
While working in the laboratory he is fully responsible for the equipment entrusted to him. He understands and respects the principles of occupational safety and health.
Prerequisites:
Botany, biochemistry, genetics and plant breedingCourse content:
Practical and research use of various techniques in plant tissue cultures: simplify and speed selection; mass production healthy plant material, including basic; the preparation of new varieties using the induced and spontaneous mutation, protoplast fusion, embryo rescue and transgenesis; secondary metabolites; bioreactor systems; storage germplazm - in conditions of slow growth and by means of cryopreservation.Recommended literature:
