Student knows the principle of terrestrial, mobile and airborne laser scanners, know the laser scanning measurement procedures, knows the basic methods of observation elaboration (calibration, registration and georeferencing), filtration and classification of the laser scanning data.
Student knows the standard capabilities of the software for point cloud processing; knows the basic areas of application of laser scanning, knows the products based on laser scanning data.
Skills
Student can perform the terrestrial laser scanning measurements, elaborate the terrestrial laser scanning data, is able to classify the airborne laser scanning data and use it for building the Digital Terrain Model.
Student can choose the equipment appropriate to the measurement task. Student can prepare a plan of the airborne laser scanning. Student can identify the benefits of the use of laser scanning as a method of measurement.
Competences:
Student understands the importance of technological progress in new methods of measurement and data acquisition. Understands the need for improvement.Prerequisites:
Land surveyingCourse content:
The laser scanning technology, as a method of spatial data acquisition is presented in the framework of this course. Besides background of measurement principle, the configuration of systems and principle of operations are given both for airborne and terrestrial laser scanning. Moreover, data processing and point cloud exploration are also considered.
Introduction to the laser scanning technologies, measurement methods. Airborne laser scanning, the system components. Features and characteristics of the laser scanning. Planning of the measurements. Calibration, georeferencing and registration. Sources of errors in laser scanning measurements. Filtering and classification of point clouds. Application and products derived from laser scanning.
