Learning outcomes: The student has knowledge of the rules and procedures of public participation in spatial planning. The student knows the importance of social, economic and environmental aspects of local and regional development. The student has knowledge regarding the basic methods and tools used in the implementation of the sustainable development principles Skills The student is able to analyse and evaluate selected aspects of sustainable local and regional development using indicators. The student can develop strategic goals and actions as a part of sustainable strategy at local level. The student uses techniques to support the process of public participation and decision-making contributing to sustainable development
Competences: Student can interact in a group during the decision-making and conflict resolution processes. Student is able to plan and implement teamwork. He is able to publically convey the information. .

Course content: The contents of the course include the problems of sustainable development in the context of integrated spatial management. Students learn about the contemporary challenges in sustainable spatial management in the urban environment as well as at the regional and national scale. As a result of the course, the student is able to propose practical measures to implement sustainable development at a local scale. A detailed curricula of the course relate to the following issues: the concept of sustainable development, Agenda21, , ecological footprint, HDI, the quality of life, integration of spatial policies with sustainable development strategies, elements of environmental and socio-economic conflict prevention in spatial management, transformation of the transport and communications systems and policies, agri-environmental programs, greening agriculture and improving living conditions in the rural areas, spatial aspects of the environmental protection system in non-urbanized areas, spatial planning as a means of countering natural disasters and the anthropogenic threats, sustainable land use management in protecting landscape values. good practices of implementation of sustainable development in spatial planning.
