Learning outcomes: Knowledge: student knows methods of chemical and instrumental analysis with particular regard to physico-chemical foundationsł student has knowledge of methods and techniques used in research laboratoriesł student knows the rules for dealing with biological materialł student has the knowledge needed to handle laboratory apparatusł student indicates the advantages and disadvantages of various analytical techniques. Skills: student plans and performs under supervisor’s control research tasks in laboratory and field or expertises in the range of biology; student takes the appropriate decisions on the selection of research techniques and is able to apply them in practice; student properly documents studies; student efficiently and safely uses the research apparatus and measuring instruments used in biology. Can choose the appropriate gauge and measure the needed size of the physiological and morphological features, student can intake and proceed the material for laboratory tests; student is able to perform analysis in assessing biological material; student on the basis of collected data of analysis is able to formulate and interpret the results of the research tasks. Skillfully juxtaposes in tables and graphically illustrated data. Compares with other sources; student is able to draw the appropriate conclusion.

Competences: Student proceeds in accordance with the rules of work safety and hygiene in biological laboratories, demonstrating responsibility for an estimation of the hazards arising from research techniques; student is aware of necessity of safe work conditions creation; student willingly cooperates with the representatives of the institutions and scientific units representing the other, related discipline in terms of exchange of experience, designing and carrying out scientific research.

Prerequisites: -

Course content: Basic analysis in the biochemical laboratory: haematological, electrolyte status; profiles: metabolic, pancreatic, hepatic, renal, endocrine, immune system, circulatory system diagnostics.

Assessment methods: Assessment of tutorials The presence of the exercises is compulsory, the student may have three excused absences. In the of unexcused absence student is required to pass the relevant part of the material. Current rating (oral) advances in science and activity. Evaluation on the basis of a written final test each module of tutorials. Completion of the course: Written exam. If a student fail this exam he/she is has the right to second attempt in oral form.
