Semester: 2010/2011 summer
Name: Plant Phisiology
Major: Biology
Study Type: first cycle
Course type: compulsory
Study Semester: 2
ECTS points: 6
Hours (Lectures / Tutorials / Other): 30 / 30 / 0
Lecturer: dr inż. Anna Demczuk
Language of instruction: Polish

Learning outcomes: Students will get the knowledge on the basic processes responsible for the functioning of plant cell and of plant organisms. After passing the course student knows how to use basic methods for investigation of physiological processes going on in plants ( i. e. transpiration, photosynthesis, respiration, plant nutrition , physiological effects of growth regulators, factors affecting physiological processes)

Competences: Knowledge in the realm of plant physiology ( theory and practice) obtained during the lectures and classes is necessary for further studies of such subjects as agriculture, horticulture, forestry, biotechnology and related sciences. Passing the course permits conducting simple examination of physiological processes going on in plants.

Prerequisites: Szweykowska A., Fizjologia roślin, Wyd. Nauk UAM Poznań 1997 (i nowsze wydania) Buchanan B. Gruissem W. Jones R. Biochemistry & molecular biology of plants, American Society of Plant Physiologists, Rockville , Maryland 2000

Course content: Physiolgical characteristics of plant cell. Water relations. Mineral nutrition. Respiration. Photosynthesis and photorespiration. Plant productivity. Translocation of minerals and assimilates. Growth and development. Regulators of plant growth. Physiology of stress.

Recommended literature: Szweykowska A., Fizjologia roślin, Wyd. Nauk UAM Poznań 1997 (i nowsze wydania) Buchanan B. Gruissem W. Jones R. Biochemistry & molecular biology of plants, American Society of Plant Physiologists, Rockville , Maryland 2000

Assessment methods: Passing grades of laboratory course and written exam after semester 4 , minimum 60 % of knowlege to pass.
