avian taxonomy (species concept, isolation, sibling species, hybridization, speciation;
avian systematics); population ecology (population properties, distribution and
abundance, habitat selection); breeding ecology (timing ofbreeding, ciutch size,
reproductive success); foraging ecology; behavioural ecology (territoriality and colonial
breeding, social systems, cooperative breeding, brood parasitism); orientation and
navigation; protection of birds

The aim of the course is to provide knowledge of avian ecology, taxonomy, migration,
ecophysiology, behavioural ecology and population ecology. Special attention is given to
to the visual and vocal identification of common species of indigenous avifauna. Students
become familiarized with principal fleid methods applied in avian ecology (count
methods, diet anałysis, methods applied in habitat and nest site selection; estimation of
reproductive success) and in the protection ofbirds; literaturę searching.
