Learning outcomes: Student has a basic knowledge of spatial diversity of the natural environment in the world, in Europe and in Poland. He has knowledge about the different types of spatial structures and social institutions (cultural, political, legal, economic). He knows the methods and tools for studying the socio-economic structures in space, studying the concentration of spatial phenomena; He knows the techniques of data collection. He/she knows the importance of rural cultural environment, the level of integration of rural society and the quality of its resources as the primary determinants of functioning and development of rural areas. Skills Student can interpret natural, social and economic phenomena place in the space. He has the ability to search, understand, analyze and use the necessary information from various sources and in various forms, for the spatial analysis of social, natural and economic phenomena. He can use gained knowledge to resolve dilemmas arising in their professional work and have the ability to prepare speeches in the field of gained knowledge.
Competences: Student can interact in a group to make decision and to solve spatial conflicts. He/she is able to plan and implement team works. He/she has the ability to convey information in public. He/she has the ability to prepare critical evaluation and substantive discussion.

Course content: The course contains the basics of economic geography and the analysis of conditions and spatial distribution of various phenomena affecting spatial planning, including natural phenomena (eg. the characteristics of the environment, raw materials, natural disasters), economic (eg. the exploitation of the environment, agriculture, services, industry, energetics, transport and communications) and socio-political (eg. geography of culture and conflicts, including spatial conflicts (location, ecological) relating to the management of local resources and the use of geographical area). Introduction to economic geography. Environmental resources. Sustainable development. Raw materials and energy. Population and settlements. Land use and agriculture. Services. Industry and technopolies. Transport and communication. Globalization and international organizations. Cultural and economic diversity of population. Political geography, including geography of power and political conflicts affecting the economy. Geography of natural disasters. Selected socio-economic problems of Poland in spatial terms. The localisation and type of conflicts connected with the developing of geographical space (location, ecological and social conflicts)
