He knows the basics of soil-construction interaction

Student can design a simple foundations for buildings, agricultural and hydraulic structures
He Is able to choose excavation support and perform basic calculations of sheet piling

Student is able to work individually and collaborate with a team on the indicated task
He is responsible for the reliability of his works and results interpretation

The course covers the design and construction of shallow and deep foundations. It discusses the calculation and application of massive and light retaining structures. Presents problems of building excavations and assuring their stability.
Ground investigation. Types of foundations. Shallow foundation – construction, bearing capacity determination. Structures settlements – reason and consequences. Subsoil models. Excavations. Retaining structures. Sheet piling – designing and execution. Diaphragm walls. Soil reinforcement techniques. Soil anchors. Deep foundation. Piles. Piling technologies. Foundation wells and caissons. Soils strengthening, foundation strengthening.
