Student:
-knows the basic principles of preparing of building design projects.
-knows the basic technical requirements for both individual elements and whole buildings on structural safety, fire safety and use
-knows design principles of constructing floors, walls and roof trusses for traditional technology.
Skills
-Can perform a critical analysis of the role and tasks of the structural and non-structural components of the building in terms of structural safety, fire safety and use.
-can design a timber roof truss and other structural elements of the building; can give examples of thermal bridges and to determine their impact on the overall thermal performance.
-can optimally design a building with regard to material and structural requirements, while maintaining optimal temperature and humidity conditions of the building

This course extends and deepen general construction knowledge from Buildings and Building Elements 1 course.
Loads and forces. Categories. The rules for determining loads. Load from partition walls. Snow load. Wind load. The characteristic values and design loads. Roofs. The roof’s elements. Close-coupled roofs, purlin roofs and roof trusses. Roof structure: full and empty trusses. The loads applied to the truss structure. Design of roof and its elements. Calculation of wooden beams and steel beam floors. Design and calculation of prefabricated ribbed floors, lintels and balconies. Masonry walls. Reinforced and non-reinforced walls. Design of wall elements.
