Learning outcomes: Student knows the basic concepts of waste management (among others: classification of waste, selective waste collection, segregation, composting, recycling of municipal waste) He has a basic knowledge of: the rules of organization and planning of waste management; He knows the methods of disposal municipal waste neutralization; knows the general principles of facilities operation and new technologies used in waste management He knows principles of waste landfills construction and operation and elements of infrastructure Student recognizes the importance of waste management for sustainable development, understands the need of avoiding generation of waste, their use and reducing of amount of waste deposited in landfills. Can determine wastes quantity, sources, prepare wastes balance and forecast and can plan treatment methods, among others neutralization

Competences: He is aware of the responsibility for his own work and is ready to follow principles of teamwork responsibility for together realized tasks.

Prerequisites: -

Course content: During the course student learns: the rules of organization and planning of waste management (waste classification, collection, transport, recovery and disposal); Basic principles of construction and operation of landfills and other waste management infrastructure. Basic law regulations concerning waste disposal. Classification, physical, chemical and mechanical properties of wastes. Waste generation forecasting. Reduction of waste amount. Waste management - local government tasks. Collection and transportation of waste. Selective collection and segregation of waste. Mechanical-biological treatment of municipal solid wastes. Industrial waste, hazardous waste. Waste Incineration. Landfills: types, location, construction and operation. Landfills reclamation.

Assessment methods: Course activity (lectures and exercises), colloquium, project execution. Written exam. Final score is calculated as a 50% of exercise score and 50% of lecture score
